Coach Jill offers private lessons for skaters of all levels at multiple rinks across Illinois. Below are some examples of free skate moves and levels Coach Jill can help you with:

Pre-Free Skate

  1. Forward inside open mohawk from a standstill position (R to L and L to R)
  2. Backward crossovers to a backward outside edge glides (landing position), clockwise
    and counterclockwise
  3. Backward outside edge to a forward outside edge transition, clockwise and counterclockwise
  4. Two forward crossovers into a forward inside mohawk, step down and cross
    behind, step into one backward crossover and step to a forward inside edge,
    clockwise and counterclockwise

Spins Pre-Free Skate

  1. One-foot upright spin, optional entry and free-foot position (minimum three revolutions)

Jumps Pre-Free Skate

  1. Forward inside open mohawk from a standstill position (R to L and L to R)
  2. Mazurka (R and L)
  3. Waltz jump

Free Skate One

  1. Forward power stroking
  2. Clockwise and counterclockwise
  3. Basic forward outside and forward inside
  4. Consecutive edges (four to six consecutive edges)
  5. Backward outside three-turns (R and L)

Spin

  1. Upright spin, entry from back crossovers (min. four to six revolutions)

Jumps

  1. Half Flip
  2. Toe Loop

Free Skate Two

  1. Alternating forward outside and inside
  2. Spirals on a continuous axis (two sets)
  3. Basic backward outside and backward inside
  4. Consecutive edges (four to six consecutive edges)
  5. Backward inside three-turns (R and L)

Spins

  1. Beginning back spin (up to two revolutions)

Jumps

  1. Half Lutz
  2. Salchow

 

Free Skate Three

  1. Alternating backward crossovers to back outside edges – Four sets
  2. Alternating mohawk/crossover sequence (R to L and L to R)
  3. Waltz three-turns (forward outside three turn, backward outside edge glide), clockwise and counterclockwise

Spins

  1. Advanced back spin with free foot in crossed leg position (min. three revolutions)

Jumps

  1. Loop Jump
  2. Waltz jump-toe loop or Salchow-Toe Loop combination
